NLP pillars

The five pillars of NLP give a good indication of what it is:-
1- Outcome thinking: - be clear about what you want to achieve, the goals that you want. This can cover the results in long, medium and short term. Basically, it is about doing things for a reason.

2- Sensory acuity: - pay attention to what is going on and the signals you receive. The best you can get for this, noticing changes in tone of voice, small changes in body language, the actual words people use or even eye movements, the more you can understand the other person and how tune into them.

3- Flexibility: - " If you continue to do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got " If something does not work - do something else.

4- Rapport: - the ability to develop a sense of mutual understanding, to tune into the other person and they feel as if you're on their wavelength. This does not have to equate to love each other.

5- State management: - take control of your own emotions, responses and attitudes. The starting point for this is to accept responsibility for them and to recognize what you can do to generate the "state" you want for the background.

Using a number of the tools within each of these, we can find ways to improve our own skills by working with others or to change attitudes within ourselves. This is the starting point for the use of NLP and not just the acquisition of tools and techniques to use on the other.
